My name is Adam W. Metzler and my main job is the 5-12 Instrumental Music Teacher (Band Teacher). I am also the district Technology Director and really the only on-site tech guy, yes, I like to keep busy!!

I am originally from Avon, NY which is just south of Rochester. I was fortunate to grow up in a time when technology was starting to go more mainstream. I still remember the early days of having countless AOL disks so you could keep receiving free internet. Watching technology advance over the years has been fun. I started out by playing around with anything I could get my hands on which in those days was a Tandy 1000 and a little later the old IBM Thinkpads. I quickly became adept at repairing my computer and helping others when they had issues.

Later in high school, I became highly interested in music and ended up going to the University of Maine to major in teaching instrumental music. I never strayed too far from technology but music and teaching became my focus. Upon graduating I moved back to NY where I substitute taught for three years. While in NY I began playing with a community orchestra and decided to learn web design so I could build a website for the group. After a few months, I started building websites for a few groups I played with and had a few businesses contact me for help on their website. After a few years in NY, I decided I missed being in Maine and found a teaching job in the far northern corner of the state. I was hired in Mars Hill, Maine to teach instrumental music to students in grades 5-12 and have been happily teaching in the district since 2006.

Once I settled into the school the website that the district was using was not very good so I offered to take on the website and create a new one. After a few years of doing the site, some help was needed in the technology department with general help and I was asked. After a few years of helping out the opportunity came for me to head up the Technology Department which in our school was just a one-person department so now I teach band and also handle all technology needs in our district.

I believe I come from a much different direction, I am not a trained techie who learned about working in a school. I am a trained teacher who is skilled in technology which I find can significantly help when working with students and staff. This gives me a very unique perspective when working with and evaluating technology for the district. I also strive to talk to others about technology in a way they can understand instead of speaking techie talk which goes over most peoples head.

Outside of music and technology, I am married and we have been together since 2000 and married since 2006. We have a few cats and two Siberian Huskies. I am also an avid golfer and have coached our varsity golf team for 15 years and our volleyball team for 14 years.

I am a lifelong learner and am always looking for new technologies to learn.
